Morro Bay and Cayucos

As some of you may have seen, there are different locations in California, beautifully painted on me. The featured locations this week will be Morro Bay and Cayucos, and current EIM Student Bianca Grauss told me all about why she has come to love each place during her last four years at Cal Poly, so keep reading to find out!!

“Morro Bay has become one of my favorite beach towns to spend the day with friends and family when they come to town. Although running around SLO will never get old, I find that Morro Bay has a completely different atmosphere than the downtown SLO we have at heart of our college town. The quaint seaside village has an old town feel full of many opportunities for people to spend the entire day there such as kayaking, fishing, visiting museums and art galleries, and of course...eating! If you're a seafood lover then look no further - Morro Bay has some of the best seafood I've ever had. If you're not into seafood don't worry, there's just about everything else to choose from too! Many to all of the restaurants have patio dining which allows you to look out into the bay and search for otter while enjoying your meal. I recommend taking a boat tour around the bay, the tour guide is hilarious and we learned a ton about the area including the story behind the infamous "Morro Rock." If you can, grab a hot cocoa from one of the many local coffee shops and stick around for the killer sunset!

Nestled in between Morro Bay and Cambria on Highway 1 is the rustic and relaxing beach town of Cayucos. My first time to Cayucos was for an RPTA Lab with Dr. Ru's class where we hiked the Estero Bluffs Trail and learned from a local tour guide about native and invasive species of the land as well as sustainability efforts to protect the beautiful and colorful coastline. I was eager to return and explore more of Cayucos after that, so I dragged my roommates into town with me the next weekend to see what this stunning place was all about! The downtown was lined with unique boutiques and restaurants, many old with character and some new. We quickly learned from one of the many locals that no trip to Cayucos is complete without a trip to the Brown Butter Cookie Company to taste and purchase the best cookies on the coast. He wasn't kidding - we all ended up buying at least one of every flavor! Whether you're looking to surf, hike the breathtaking coastline or enjoy a perfect ocean view, Cayucos is a hidden gem on the Central Coast.”

Thanks for sharing, Bianca! I’m glad you were able to have a Learn by “Mooing” experience in both Morro Bay and Cayucos, as it is such a huge part of me.

One of my favorite parts in Morro Bay are all the cute otters! Can you spot the otter that is painted on me?
